Kobaloni Energy

About

We aim to produce cobalt for 1 million EVs per year, with the potential to double capacity.

We are developing Africa’s first cobalt sulphate refinery to supply reliable, traceable battery grade cobalt for electric vehicles.

Key benefits include:

  • Location close to sources of feedstock
  • Experienced management team
  • Ability to supply global automotive customers, reducing the time to market, transport costs, and emissions
  • Sustainability credentials - powered by renewable energy, and producing zero waste
  • Tried and tested minerals processing technology
  • Traceable and responsible supply chain.

We have completed a Class 3 Feasibility Study and are backed by Vision Blue Resources.

Project

A new source of high quality, processed, and traceable cobalt to help diversify global supply chains.

We will produce an initial 6,000 tpa of cobalt sulphate (metal contained) from our strategically located refinery in Zambia, which benefits from:

  • Paved road access to high-volume, deep-berth ports, including Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Lobito (Angola), and Walvis Bay (Namibia)
  • Local supply chains with nearby feedstock and reagent suppliers
  • Existing connections to reliable power and water infrastructure
  • Situated in established mining and mineral processing hub.

We will do this using tried and tested minerals processing technology, with the potential for a Phase II expansion that could double production. We will only use feedstock from mechanised mines. We will not use material from informal or artisanal mines.

Sustainability

Committed to minimising environmental impacts and applying the highest standards of supply chain traceability.

Our refinery has been designed to minimise environmental impacts and to provide significant benefits to Zambia.

  • Zero waste and no tailings storage facilities that require long term environmental management
  • By-products can be used in the production of fertilizer or detergent, helping create a circular economy, and removing need for expensive imports
  • Low carbon footprint, underpinned by efficient, modern equipment, access to clean hydropower, and reuse and recycling of inputs
  • Lower supply chain emissions, due to local networks and reduced transport distances to global customers. We will track the physical flow of our materials - from extraction to final production - to ensure we avoid exploitative labour practices and irresponsible production.
